Freshman Orientation and Freshman Game Nights

Freshman Orientation sessions will be held from late May through the entire month of June. This is a great time to introduce incoming students to SSSC and the Speed societies and to show them how much fun Speed school can be. In order to accomplish this, however, we need your help!

Just as a reminder, orientation sessions are two days. On the first day, SSSC will have a booth at the RSO Fair. That night, we sponsor a Society Game Night. On the second day, SSSC and Leadership Advantage will give a short presentation and the students will register for classes. As you can see, there are four different opportunities to get to know the new freshmen, so there is something for everyone! (More information on each opportunity is listed below.)

These are the dates scheduled for freshman orientation:
May 27-28 (Th-F), June 1-2 (T-W), June 3-4 (Th-F), June 7-8 (M-T), June 10-11 (Th-F), June 14-15 (M-T), June 21-22 (M-T), June 24-25 (Th-F), June 28-29 (M-T, June 30-July 1 (W-Th)

If you wish to help promote SSSC, please come to the RSO fair from 1:35 to 2:05 pm on the first day. SSSC will have a trifold display and volunteers will answer questions from incoming students.

The Society Game Nights will be held primarily on Monday and Thursday nights throughout May and June. They will be held in the Vogt 2nd floor Supercomputer lab. This year, in addition to video games, there will be a Jeopardy game, cards, board games, and other activities. We need plenty of people to help out! Please come out so you can promote your society or organization to the new freshmen!

Finally, registering can be confusing for some, so help is also needed to show the students how to choose classes, form a schedule, and register online. The time slots for presentations and scheduling are 10:10 am to 11:15 am and 12:10 pm to 1:15 pm.

If you are available at these dates and times, or for more information on Orientation sessions, please contact Jeremy Bozarth at dosaf@speedcouncil.org and let him know what aspects of orientation you are interested in. Contact Kara Leeds dosr@speedcouncil.org for information about Society Game Nights.
